Suggestions for Freshman I mid-term exam questions:
1. How would you describe the author’s tone? Support your answer by giving reasons and examples. (for example, the author was aggressive when he said so and so, he was sarcastic, humorous, angry, …. When he said so and so)
2. Do you find the author’s conclusion convincing? Support your answer by giving reasons.
3. What is the main argument mentioned in the article?
4. Do you think there is any bias in the article? Justify your answer by mentioning two examples from the article.
5. How relevant do you think the title is to the article as a whole?
6. What do you think of the article’s title and opening sentence?
7. The authors mentioned many reasons to justify “…………………………….”. Trace all the reasons mentioned and evaluate all kinds of evidence used to support each reason. (This includes the types of evidence used, both weak and strong, and the fallacies (sometimes mistakenly used by some authors to convince the audience)
8. How would you describe the authors’ style of writing?
9. The author states, “……………………………………….” What kind of appeal is he using in this paragraph? Does he use any other kinds of appeal in the article? Support your answer by giving examples.
10. They can be given an open question that asks them to think about themselves if put in a certain situation ( a situation related to the article).
